Former drug kingpin Carlito Brigante (Al Pacino, Righteous Kill) is released from prison on a legal technicality by his cocaine-addicted lawyer David Kleinfeld (Sean Penn, Mystic River) and stuns his former underworld peers by living up to his vow of going straight, turning his back on his former life of crime. If only it were that easy. Carlito finds reason to stick to his guns when he comes across his former love Gail (Penelope Ann Miller, The Messengers) and rekindles their love affair. But everywhere Carlito turns, from his lawyer to his business co-owning a trendy yet somewhat sleazy nightclub where he is reminded of his past by an admiring young up-and-coming gangster Benny Blanco (John Leguizamo, Assault On Precinct 13). Flanked by his right-hand man Pachanga (Luis Guzman, Boogie Nights) he rebuffs Benny’s attempts at buying his idol a drink. No matter what Carlito does his past seems to come back to haunt him and threaten his present and his future. All he knows is this time around, he has to do it Carlito’s Way.
Invictus is about the true story of Nelson Mandela using a Rugby team to unite South Africa despite the racial tensions and despite being jailed for 27 years for opposing apartheid. In doing so, he helps inspire the team to the World Cup in 1995, also he inspires his people to get behind the Rugby team despite them being all white except one player.
