New Review Movies! 10-20-2010

20th Century Fox
Moulin Rouge (Blu-ray) – Nicole Kidman (The Hours, Australia) sizzles in her Oscar-nominated role as Satine, the seductive courtesan and star of a popular French nightclub that caters to society’s decadent elite. When she unwittingly draws Christian, a struggling writer played by Ewan McGregor (Amelia), into her spell, true love turns to tragedy, Moulin Rouge! Offers a kaleidoscopic ride through a world of song, dance, romance and drama that celebrates truth, beauty, freedom and above all things, love. William Shakespeare’s  Romeo+Juliet (Blu-ray) – Inventive, unconventional, controversial.

William Shakespeare’s Romeo+Juliet, in Luhrmann’s Oscar-nominated adaptation, finds Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers in the modern created world of Verona Beach where Romeo drives a car and Juliet packs a gun. To a thumping soundtrack, and by turns the threat of gunfire through to the delicate embrace of forbidden love, the audience is invited to drink from an intoxicating cinematic cocktail that takes them on a ride from Romeo and Juliet’s budding love, their first kiss, through to their separation and ultimate demise.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Blu-ray) – A divine film adaptation from Richard O’Brien’s British musical horror comedy/rock opera, produced by Lou Adler and Michael White, The Rocky Horror Picture Show features revered performance by Tim Curry (Clue, Home Alone) as a bizarre and self-proclaimed “sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania,” and Susan Sarandon (Dead Man Walking, Thelma and Louise) and Barry Bostwick (“Spin City”), as Brad and Janet, a couple who find themselves lost on a cold, rainy night. The madcap, musical mayhem begins when the couple takes refuge in the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter as he is about to unveil his greatest creation – and have a bit of fun with his reluctant guests.
